Dell Latitude E6400 Review

Well, the review has yet to be written but I've uploaded some photos for the meantime and added an advantages/disadvantages thing!

Advantages:

  • The 9 cell battery lasts almost 6 hours between charges
  • Backlit keyboard is really good
  • Integrated webcamera is much better than expected.
  • Quite light at 2.45kg
  • Fast

Disadvantages:

  • Temperamental fingerprint reader
  • HDD drive could be a little bit quieter.
  • Aero features are a bit let down by the NVidia NVS 160M graphics card. Minimising/maximising could be more "fluid"

  1. I’m considering buying this laptop for school with the integrated webcam. I wanted to know if its worth paying 30 extra dollars for the webcam or not. Thanks !

  2. You’ve probably made your decision already but yes it is worth it! If you’re going to use a webcam at all then the quality is more than good enough.

  3. Great pictures, thanks for some closeups. I still haven’t decided between this E6400 and a ThinkPad T400 … I’ve been hearing very bad things about the accuracy of the touchpad on the Dell. Any comment on that?

The T400 has its own downsides for me too, though: Fn/Ctrl swapped, no backlit keyboard, all but the 4-cell battery sticks out … eww.

  4. I’m afraid I can’t comment on the trackpad since I always use the trackpoint/nipple. I can’t get along with any manufacturer’s trackpad for some reason.

I came from an IBM R51 and I thought the Fn/Ctrl on the Dell was the wrong way round but you soon get used to it!
