On the subject of photography…
So I was thinking about getting a new camera to replace my Canon Powershot A640. Not that there's anything hugely wrong with the camera just that it can be limiting sometimes:
- High noise at high ISO
- Low maximum ISO (800)
- Minimum shutter speed of 15 seconds
- Can't shoot RAW
So to that end I was thinking about getting the new dSLR from Canon, their 450D. But then again to make full use of it you need a whole range of lenses which would total up to around £2.5k (wide angle, low light, standard zoom, telephoto zoom, flash, teleconverter...) Anyone have a few grand to spare? No? I'll put it to the back of my mind for a while then...

You don’t need all those lenses unless you’re actually going to use them… the standard canon lense is very good. Btw canon have packages that include different types of lenses, bags, tripods, and tickets for the spice girls… The camera is only as good as the ben behind it, if you know what I mean.

I’ve been looking into getting a 450D … but I think it’s just waay too expensive at the moment. I’d happily settle for a 400 or 350 series, and get an awesome lens off amazon or ebay or something.
However the 450D does make me drool…

Yeah the 400D can be had for much much less than the 450D but the lens that comes with it isn’t very good, unlike the new and improved one on the 450D with image stabilisation and much improved image quality. But you could buy the body only and get a lens off of ebay as you say.
@Mike – But if you’re only using the lens that comes with the camera you’re going to be stuck with poor low light non-flash photos with the small aperture (f/3.5 I think) and if you want to take a photo of something in the distance you’re stuck with a max of 55 mm of focal length… I suppose you could zoom with your feet. Unless you’re photographing a tiger.
